PANAJI: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar held a series of meetings on Tuesday to tackle recurring issues such as power cuts and traffic snarls that have been afflicting the state.
The Chief Minister’s office has informed that the Chief Minister has directed the officials of the electricity department to devise a ‘Standard Operating Procedure’ for annual maintenance and trimming of trees so that untoward power outages are prevented during monsoons.
“Division wise meetings will be held from July, along with concerned MLA’s to understand and resolve local power-supply issues. Other issues and bottlenecks for upgradation of power infrastructure in the state were also discussed,” an official of the Chief Minister’s office said.
Extended and repeated power cuts were the order of the day especially during the summer months leading up to the monsoon with power department engineers either blaming pre-monsoon works for the shutdowns or load shedding during the peak months of the summer.
Ironically, since the beginning of the monsoons the frequency and duration of power cuts has reduced.
On the issue of traffic violations, the Chief Minister directed officials to take steps for ensuring safety of commuters and take action on traffic violations.
“The CM also took stock of overall law and order scenario in the state,” a statement from the Chief Minister’s office says.
The Chief Minister also held meeting with officials of education department to discuss matters of school, higher and technical education including vacancies in the department.
