Some shack owners at Keri-Tiracol beach were in for a rude shock when they received the electricity bills of two months ranging between Rs 40,000 and Rs 5 lakh.
Sources said a shack owner, Samir Harji received a bill for Rs 5.48 lakh, while other shack operators who received exorbitant bills included Vilas Arolkar (Rs 60,273), Sujeet Kalangukar (Rs 42,924) and one Talkar (Rs 49,577).
Said Vilas Arolkar: “We could not have got bills for such amount given our power consumption. The electricity department officials should rectify their mistake and there is a need to take action against the staff for issuing us the bills of huge amount.”
When contacted, an official at the electricity department in Agarwaddo-Pernem admitted there could have been a mistake in the bills.
“There is some mistake in the bill reading, due to which the shack owners received bills of a huge amount. The bills will be re-checked and will be issued again,” he informed.
