A 41-member delegation of decree holders from “Prabhu Chambers,” Angod, Mapusa, met the North Goa Collector seeking urgent action in the recovery of approximately Rs 7.5 crore owed by builder Venkatesh Narayan Prabhu Moni. The recovery process is underway under the Goa Land Revenue Code.
Previously, former Collector Sneha Gitte had ordered the civil imprisonment of the defaulter through an order dated 30 December 2024, resulting in his 100-day incarceration in Colvale Jail.
Subsequently, the District Court on 11 April 2025 directed that Prabhu Moni be granted a hearing and instructed the Collector to independently determine whether the default was wilful.
Despite the defaulter contesting the recovery amount and claiming the lapse was unintentional, the Mamlatdar of Tiswadi, after detailed hearings, issued a speaking order on 20 May rejecting his arguments and confirming the recovery amount.
Following this, the decree holders approached the Collector once again to press for enforcement.
The Collector assured the delegation that legal recovery proceedings would now be promptly initiated, in accordance with the law and court directives.
