Historian and social activist Prajal Sakhardande will be releasing his third book title ‘Goa Gold Goa Silver Her History Her Heritage- From Earliest Times to 2019’ on May 13 at The Susegad Village, Veling Ponda at 5:00 pm. This is his first book which covers the entire history of the state up till 2019.

The book is a product of painstaking work by Sakhardande over 19 years. He had to sift through a lot of archive material using the help of Portuguese translators. He mentioned that the process was rigorous because of the consistent fact checks that were required during the research.

Addressing a press conference on Friday, Sakhardande said he hopes that the book is especially read by people of his generation because, according to him, material on Goa’s history was not widely available at that time, and also because it was not that prominent a part of the syllabus at the time. However, he said that the book is written in a way that was simple for even students to understand, and encouraged school, colleges and libraries to buy the book.

The book is being published by Khalil Ahmed of Broadway Publishing House. It contains 50 chapters and expands over 585 pages. The book is divided in three parts, the first part focuses on pre-Portuguese history. The second part focuses on the period under the Portuguese rule and the third part focuses on post-Liberation period till 2019. The third part is again divided into two sections, the first is deals with time period from 1961-1987 and the second on the period from 1987-2019.

All the landmark events in the history of Goa have been covered by the book. Some of them mentioned by the author are the Opinion Poll of 1967, Gaonkari System, important dynasties (like the Bhojas, Mauryas, Chalukyas, Kadambas, Vijayanagara, Bahamani Sultanate and Adil Shahi), Portuguese period, Inquisition, post-Liberation period.
