Here's good news amidst the sizzling summer heat. Goa's official weatherman has predicted pre-monsoon showers post May 20, a couple of weeks before the full-scale lashing of the State begins.
Speaking to The Goan, State Meteorological Centre Director VK Mini said, ?Usually the monsoon season begins in the State on June 6 and we receive pre-monsoon showers nearly 15 days prior to the onset of monsoon. So, this year too we expect the State to receive pre-monsoon showers post May 20.?
Though Goans have been complaining of scorching heat in the past few days, the Meteorological Department, surprisingly, has not recorded any significant rise in temperatures.
?This year, the temperature recorded on some days has been one degree above average. No significant rise in temperature has been noticed. And for the next few days the temperature will remain similar with no major increase or decrease,? she informed.
On Tuesday at 8.30 am, the State Meteorological Centre recorded a maximum temperature of 34.3⁰C and a minimum temperature of 26.2⁰C (the average normal maximum temperature being considered to be 33.7⁰C and the average normal minimum temperature being considered to be 26.3⁰C).
In the current year, the highest temperature recorded is 36.5⁰C as on January 1, while the lowest was 18.5⁰C on January 21 and February 15.
There seems to be no significant increase in temperature with the number constantly hovering around at 33⁰C for the last three days.
Interestingly, the State had experienced light showers at a few places in the concluding week of February due to the low pressure trough created in interior Karnataka and Madhya Maharashtra.
