VALPOI
Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) Chief Officer Suryajirao Rane has stated that pre-monsoon works in Valpoi municipality will be completed by May 28.
Speaking to The Goan, Rane said cleaning of gutters has been taken up in all 10 wards of the municipality.
“This pre-monsoon work began a fortnight ago and efforts are being made to complete the cleaning of all gutters in the municipality and these pre-monsoon works will be completed by May 28,” said Rane.
“Despite repeated appeals, people continue to throw garbage in gutters and as a result, gutters in many areas are filled with rubbish and rainwater is likely to flow on the roads during the monsoon season if there is no proper drainage. Which is why we focused on cleaning the gutters in Valpoi town.”
The chief officer said efforts are being made to prevent the accumulation of water on the roads, especially in front of the Valpoi Forest Training Centre.
He also appealed to residents to cooperate with the VMC in tackling various problems in the municipality during the rainy season. He has also requested ward councillors to notify them in case of any problem during the monsoons.
When contacted, VMC Chairperson Sehzain Sheikh said all pre-monsoon works have been taken up in the municipality to ensure that the town is sufficiently prepared for the monsoons.
