The BJP celebrated the victory of Droupadi Murmu in the presidential election near its office at Panaji on Friday.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, MLA Subhash Phaldessai, BJP State president Sadanand Tanavade, Narendra Sawaikar, and former MLAs Babu Kavlekar, MLA Dayanand Sopte and Damu Naik participated in the meet.
A troupe from Quepem was part of the celebrations playing the Kunbi dance, with MLA Phaldessai, Tanavade and others joining in.
Speaking on the occasion, Sawant said it is a matter of pride for all that Droupadi Murmu rose from a humble background to the post of President.
“It is also a pride for the tribal community that one among them has risen to the top post in the country,” he added while expressing confidence that the President will take forward the vision of Modi to create a new India.
“In all, 64 per cent votes were garnered which is historic,” Sawant said while stating that in the State, apart from the 25 votes of the ruling MLAs three more votes were garnered pointing toward the popularity of PM Modi.
He further said the celebrations will continue till July 25.
