The victory of NDA Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu triggered celebrations and jubilation in the Curtorim constituency on Thursday evening.
Similar celebrations were hosted by the BJP Fatorda Mandal soon after news of Murmu’s victory in the polls went rival.
BJP South Goa ST leader Anthony Barbosa and BJP workers took out a victory rally in the Curtorim constituency.
The rally, which started from Manora grounds on Thursday evening, wended its way to Raia and Curtorim village. Barbosa and other BJP workers were seen distributing sweets to the people along the route and the marketplaces.
Barbosa told the media that the election of Droupadi Murmu is great news for the people of the country, especially for the Scheduled Tribes. He said this is the first time in the history of India that an ST woman candidate has been elected as President of India.
He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president J P Nadda and other leaders for fielding an ST woman as the candidate for the top post.
Meanwhile, Fatorda BJP Mandal president Manohar Borkar and party leader & former MLA Damu Naik celebrated Murmu’s victory in Fatorda on Thursday evening. Councillors Milagrina Gomes, Sweta Lotlikar and Camilo Barretto also participated in the celebrations.
