Priority for Sattari land ownership issue: CM

VALPOI
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday assured that his government would not neglect land ownership issues of Sattari taluka and would consider them on priority.

“Several governments have governed the State after liberation but nobody has taken this issue seriously till now. However, our government will definitely consider the issues of land ownership rights on a priority basis,” said Sawant, while speaking to a delegation from Sattari which submitted a memorandum following a signature campaign.

Commenting on the delegation’s appeal to resolve the decades-old issue, Sawant said there were different land ownership issues in Sattari. “The State government has to study this matter first and then arrive at a decision to resolve it,” said Sawant.

Responding to a time-bound resolution to the issue, Sawant replied that it has been pending for the last 60 years and he was not in a position to offer a resolution within a specified period because of complications.

Following a protest rally in Valpoi on Republic Day, leaders from the area had decided on a signature drive across Sattari to demand land ownership rights and to submit the signatures along with a memorandum to the CM.

Later speaking to reporters, Ranjeet Rane, a member of the core committee, said they were hopeful that the CM would resolve the land ownership issues in Sattari.

“Sawant is the first CM who has openly assured to study the matter and to resolve this issue, which has been pending for the last 60 years.
