Prisoner assaults three others at Colvale Jail

A fight broke out among prisoners at Colvale Jail, when one of them assaulted three others early Wednesday morning. Colvale police have registered a non-cognizable case in this connection.

According to sources, the incident took place at about 7.35 am on Wednesday, when the prisoner, Virendra Kumar from Ward 13 first assaulted prisoner, Vikat Bhagat, who was asleep in Ward 11 and then beat up prisoners, Ismail Mulla and Mohammad Sarfaraz, from the undertrial ward. All three were treated at the jail hospital.

Additional Superintendent In-Charge of the prison Shamsunder Kaskar filed a police complaint, attaching a medical report ascertaining that the injured prisoners had sustained minor injuries.

Acting on the complaint, Colvale police registered a non-cognizable offence aganst Virendra Kumar and further investigation is in progress.

PANAJI: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced a new Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) framework under which a 0.4% charge will apply to specified person-to-merchant (P2M) UPI transactions above Rs 2,000 from October 15.The Ministry of Finance clarified that the framework will not affect person-to-person (P2P) transactions.
