With not a single petition challenging the declaration of Assembly election results, the process of storing the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) back in the Old Collectorate Building kick started on Wednesday.
In fact, Wednesday saw election officials transporting the EVMs from Ponda taluka to the Old Collectorate building under police protection. The EVMs were all housed and locked in the strong room at Ponda, which were in the custody of the Returning Officer.
Similarly, EVMs from other talukas which have been stored at the respective strong rooms in the custody of the Returning Officers will be brought back to the Old Collectorate.
Additional Collector, South Surendra Naik informed that all the EVMs were housed in the strong rooms at the taluka headquarters in the custody of the Returning Officer. “Since the Returning Officers have not received any petition from the candidates challenging the election results within the prescribed period, the EVMs are all being brought back to the Old Collectorate,” Naik added.
