Prof Hussain to present solo play on World Theatre Day at KA today

The World Theatre Day will be celebrated at the Kala Academy Goa’s College of Theatre Arts on a big scale on March 27 at 10 am at Black Box in the presence of Govind Gaude, chairman, KA and theatre personality Ravindra Amonkar who would be the chief guest on the occasion. Briefing this to the media, Ramrao Wagh, principal of College of Theatre Arts, shared that the programme would begin with a talk by Fr Milton Rodrigues, assistant professor in Konkani at Fr Agnel College of Arts and Commerce, Pilar. He would speak on ‘Life and work of C Alvares’ in the commemoration of the birth anniversary of C Alvares. The talk would be followed by the performance of prize-winning participants of the All Goa Online Monologue competition.

Thereafter theatre director and actor Prof Afsar Hussain will present a solo performance, ‘Amina Aapa ka Radio’ at the Black Box at around 11 am. The Hindi play is written by him and he will be performing too. Speaking on the play Prof Hussain shared, “I wrote this play during the lockdown, and it’s based on the popular old songs between 1930 to 1960 along with a melodrama and the incidents that happened during the India-Pakistan partition.”

After the play, there will be a prize distribution function and speeches by the guests as well as member secretary, KA Pravin Barad and principal Ramrao Wagh of College of Theatre Arts.

Ramrao Wagh briefed on the performances by the first year and second year students of the College of Theatre Arts on March 31, too. The third year BPA students will present Mohan Rakesh’s popular play ‘Adhe Adhure’ as part of the syllabus. The play is based on method acting or realistic acting. The music is by Sachin Chowgule and choreography by Mamta Hussain who has used an innovative and creative method by which clowns will be used. Directed and designed by Prof Afsar Hussain, there will be two shows of ‘Adhe Adhure’ on March 31, at 3.30 pm and 7 pm, and the shows will be in the Dinanath Mangueshkar Kala Mandir auditorium. The shows are open to the public.

Wagh also mentioned the recent announcement by the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, wherein three Chairs have been introduced in the names of Goan celebrities in the field of art “ late Vishnu Surya Wagh Chair at KA’s College of Theatre Arts, late Laxman Pai Chair at the Goa College of Fine Arts and late Jitendra Abhisheki Chair at the Goa College of Music. The Chairs would facilitate enthusiastic students to do research.
