CANACONA
Projects continue to be headed towards the State’s southernmost taluka and in the latest round, four more projects worth Rs 2.14 crore were launched in Canacona.
Dy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes launched the projects in Loliem-Polem, Poinguinim and Cotigao panchayats on Thursday.
The projects consist of construction of retaining walls at various roads in Cotigao (Rs 1.18 Cr), repairs of culverts at Pedem and Loliem in Loliem-Polem village (Rs 10.31 lakh), reconstruction of the collapsed protection wall along a 90-mtr stretch of road near the Nirakar High School in Loliem-Polem (Rs 37.31 lakh) and repairs to the Dabel Bridge in Poinguinim village (Rs 48.78 lakh).
Fernandes said he had considered the difficulties that students of Nirankar School could face if the existing protection wall could further collapse and got the file moved on priority.
“The project was tendered urgently and with the chief minister’s support, it obtained financial expenditure and the work order was issued,” said Fernandes.
Others present during the launch of works in Loliem-Polem included the Sarpanch Sachin Naik, Panch Nishant Prabhudessai, ex-sarpanchas Ajay Lolienkar and Mohandas Lolienkar, Bhushan Prabhugaongkar and Parish Priest of St Sebastian Church, Loliem.
Poinguinim Sarpanch Jagdish Gaonkar, and other panch members were present for the launch of repairs to the Dabel Bridge in Poinguinim, while Cotigao Sarpanch Daya Gaonkar, Dy Sarpanch and panch members of Cotigao were present for the work to construct a retaining wall foundation in Kuskem-Cotigao. PWD officials were also present at all functions.
