Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza has promised a gift to the people of Navelim and neighboring villages as he has assured to inaugurate the primary health centre and 10-bedded hospital on the occasion of the feast of Our Lady of Rosary on November 16.
D’Souza, who also holds the Health portfolio, inspected the primary health centre under construction at Navelim opposite the panchayat ghar with local MLA and Fisheries Minister, Avertano Furtado.
After the inspection, the Health Minister told the media in the presence of Avertano that he would like to commission the health centre on the feast of Our Lady of Rosary on November 16. “The GSIDC has promised to hand over the building complete in all respects to the Director of Health by October 2. Ninety per cent of the civil work on the spacious building is complete so far and the contractor has promised to complete the balance work before October 2,” he told the media.
Replying to a question, D’Souza said though the Navelim health centre has a provision for 10-bedded hospital, the hospital section will be taken up in phase II of the project. “It’s not just the question of building that is important. What is more important is the fact that we need manpower, including doctors and para-medics to run the health centres and hospitals,” he added.
The Navelim MLA exuded confidence that the government will inaugurate the health centre on the occasion of the feast of Our Lady of Rosary as announced by the Deputy Chief Minister. “The Health centre, once inaugurated, will go a long way in addressing the health needs of the local populace and the people from the neighbouring villages,” Avertano said.
