The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee came out on Friday to speak up for Police Inspectors of the 14th batch of recruits to the Goa Police Force who were promoted to the position in 2002 and who had not been given a further promotion to Deputy Superintendent (DySP), which the Congress insisted was due to them a long time ago.
Speaking to mediapersons, Congress spokesperson Urfan Mullah, said that he was aggrieved that these 14 PIs, who joined the police force 27 years ago as Police Sub-Inspectors, and who provided service day and night, were not getting the promotions which was theirs by right.
“Why should there be direct recruitment for the posts of DySPs when there are Goan PIs whose promotions are pending?” asked Mullah. “They are doing their jobs as per the directions given to them. The Home Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) need to take cognizance of the situation at the earliest and promote deserving PIs,” he said, while asserting that there was no need for the police force to have direct recruitment for DySPs and bring in officers from outside the state when there were worthy officers within the state.
Meanwhile, Mullah pointed out that the 29 Police Sub-Inspectors who had been recruited by the government in 2002, had already been promoted recently as PIs. He also said that some PIs from a later batch were already promoted to the rank of DySPs.
Mullah also added that even if all the PIs from the 1991 batch were not deserving of promotion, promotion needed to be given to those who were deserving.
