Prompt response by lifesavers averts tragedy at Colva

PANAJI: Swift action by Drishti Marine lifesavers averted a tragedy at Colva beach on Monday after a 25-year-old tourist from Bihar allegedly attempted suicide following a domestic dispute.

The woman, who was found in a distressed state near a jet ski and reportedly expressed suicidal intent, was later traced to a nearby garden and handed over to the Goa Police for further assistance.

“Tourist from Bihar was found crying near a Drishti Marine jet ski after a reported argument with her husband and expressed suicidal intent at Colva beach. Lifesavers alerted Goa Police after she could not be traced at the location. She was later located by a beach marshal in a nearby garden, and both were taken to the police station,” reads the statement issued by Drishti.

Further, in North Goa, at Baga beach, a tourist from Madhya Pradesh was intercepted by the lifeguard after he was found allegedly photographing a foreign national without her consent. Acting swiftly, the marshal intervened and alerted the Goa Police, who escorted the individual to the beach tower for further inquiry.

Also, at Benaulim beach, a six-year-old boy from Karnataka who had gone missing was found at the fifth point by a lifesaver of Drishti Marine. The team swiftly traced his parents and, after due verification, safely reunited the child with his father.
