The setting up a fire station at Cuncolim last year came into play to extinguish fire to a hotel at Cuncolim on late Monday night.
While a portion of the hotel was completely gutted in a major fire late Monday night, the Cuncolim fire brigade move in swiftly to bring the fire under control, before it could spread to the adjoining shops.
As the fire broke out in the hotel when the shigmo parade in the town was underway, the fire tender kept as a standby near the shigmo venue was rushed to the hotel to start the firefighting operations.
A firemen pointed out that the setting up of the fire station at Cuncolim has helped to swiftly bring the fire under control. “In the past, the fire tenders had to be requisitioned from Margao, normally taking half an hour to 40 minutes to reach the time. Now, the fire tenders can attend to fire calls in minutes”, a fire official informed.
Property worth around Rs one lakh was destroyed in the fire incident, sources informed.
