Calangute Police arrested three persons on charges of being involved in prostitution racket and rescued one person in a raid conducted in the wee hours of Friday.
The three accused Akbar Ali (34) a native of Ladakh, Prana Jena (40) of Odisha and Neha Khatun (23) of Kolkatta were arrested by police.
According to the police, the victim girl who was being transported in a car was intercepted near the Dolphin Circle, Calangute.
The accused were arrested under Section 370 IPC and Sections 4, 5 and 7 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act for living on the earnings earned through prostitution activities in the vicinity of a public place.
While the victim girl was lodged in the State Protective Home, Merces, the accused were being produced before the JMFC, Mapusa to seek police custody so as to enable the police to interrogate them further.
The raid was conducted by Calangute PI Nolasco Raposo along with LPSI Pragati Malik, Head Constable Devidas Haldankar, Police Constables Vinay Shrivastav, Dinesh Morajkar, Lady Police Constable Deepika Naik, police drivers Sarvesh Tuyekar and Sunil Mhalsekar.
Calangute Police is investigating further under the supervision of SDPO Porvorim Edwin Colaco and SP North Utkrisht Prasoon.
