Traffic movement at Bendwada in Sanguem was briefly disrupted on Monday after former Sanguem Municipal Councillor Meshu D'Costa staged a road blockade to protest the persistent waterlogging near the ongoing bridge construction site at Bendwada-Sanguem.
D'Costa expressed strong dissatisfaction over the situation, stating that continuous flooding and the accumulation of stagnant water have caused significant inconvenience to motorists and local residents. He demanded immediate intervention from the concerned authorities to resolve the issue.
According to residents, the problem has intensified since the commencement of the bridge construction works, with rainwater collecting on the roadway and making it hazardous for commuters. The waterlogging has also raised concerns about public safety, accessibility, and the smooth movement of traffic, particularly during the monsoon season.
During the protest, D'Costa criticised authorities for their failure to address the recurring issue despite repeated complaints from local residents. The blockade drew the attention of commuters and villagers, many of whom voiced support for the demand for urgent corrective measures.
The protest was intended to draw the attention of the Public Works Department and other concerned agencies to the need for immediate remedial action. Residents have called upon the authorities to ensure proper drainage arrangements at the bridge construction site and implement a long-term solution to prevent further flooding.
Locals expressed hope that the demonstration would prompt authorities to treat the matter as a priority and take swift action to prevent further inconvenience and safety risks during periods of heavy rainfall.
