A large number of Hindu protestors gathered near Hutatma Chowk on Monday evening to peacefully march to the Mapusa police station, denouncing a memorandum submitted by Muslim leaders on Saturday.

The protestors were stopped at the police station entrance, after which a delegation met Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar to submit a memorandum demanding action against those who submitted the memorandum regarding the proposed Canacona Julus procession.

They claimed this act was an attempt to disturb religious harmony and create law and order issues in Mapusa.

On Saturday, Muslim leaders had requested permission to hold the Julus procession in Canacona, saying that its denial hurt their religious sentiments.

Jayesh Thali noted that the Hindavi Swaraj Sanghatan and local residents opposed the procession and called for action against those responsible, stating it was a local dispute unrelated to Mapusa.
