The ongoing protests against the Centre sponsored projects which threaten protected forests at Mollem, including axing some 70,000 age old trees, stormed micro-blogging site Twitter on Sunday evening.
Two of the hashtags -- #IndiaWithGoa and #DropFIRsAgainstGoans -- were trending on Twitter in India.
In fact #IndiaWithGoa was trending at No. 1 as the 'Tweet Storm' promoted by the 'Save Mollem' movement and 'Fridays for Future India' had some noteworthy handles including actors Dia Mirza and Randeep Hooda joining.
Several other civil society movements including Let India Breathe, Save Mumbai Forests, Youth for Climate India, Students for Climate India, United Conservation Movement, Aravalli Bachao, PRESOG and GAIMS (Global Association of Indian Medical Students) supported the campaign on Twitter.
It may be recalled that the ongoing stir over the Centre-sponsored projects at Mollem had also precipitated in a Twitter slugfest between the Chief Ministers of Goa and Delhi -- Pramod Sawant and Arvind Kejriwal.
The Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal had suggested that Sawant "listen to the voice of people of Goa" and stop the central projects from being on Goa in one of his tweets after a series of exchanges the two leaders engaged in from their official twitter handles.
Iconic Child Environmentalist Licypriya Kangujam had also tweeted her support to save Mollem and had tagged Sawant asking him to "reconsider" the decision to go ahead with the projects in the National Park, giving the ongoing #SaveMollem campaign a boost and a global dimension.
