Aldona MLA Glenn Ticlo and Mapusa MLA Joshua De Souza on Thursday inaugurated the Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) Oxygen Plant at the North Goa District Hospital.
The self-running project generates 960 litres of oxygen per minute.
Others present on the occasion included Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Shubhangi Waingankar, Councillor Tarak Arolkar, former councillor Franky Carvalho, medical officer Dr Swati Mulgaonkar, Dr Swati Gandhi, Dr Sunanda Amonkar, Dr Swapnil Arsekar, Dr Rakhi Kuelkar and other medical staff.
"The hospital has now been equipped with even better facilities and can cater to more patients. If we take the Covid vaccine and follow all guidelines, it will be easier to bring the pandemic under control," said Ticlo.
De Souza added that the PSA Oxygen Plant would help handle emergencies. “The system will make the District Hospital self-sufficient to face the third Covid wave," he said.
The PSA Oxygen Plant has been donated by the Tata Business Group and has been set up by the Goa State Basic Facilities Development Corporation.
