Crime Branch on Friday booked police sub-inspector Gautam Shetkar for allegedly abetting the suicide and sexual abuse of a 20-year-old lady constable who had ended her life by consuming poison in February 2018.
A resident of Anjuna, the lady constable was attached to the Verna police station where PSI Shetkar was also working.
After battling for her life for four days, the constable died on February 4 at the Goa Medical College in Bambolim.
The case was registered as an unnatural death at the Anjuna police station and was later transferred to the Crime Branch after the constable’s sister alleged that PSI Shetkar exploited her with false assurances of marriage. The sister charged Shetkar of ditching her sister which ultimately led to the suicide. The Mahila Congress wing also held a rally and marched to the police headquarters demanding suspension and action against the police sub-inspector.
Meanwhile, the PSI was transferred from Verna police station to GRP.
