Newly-elected members of panchayats across Salcete has a task cut out to pool their energies and efforts to put in place a five-year plan, as Salcete Block Development Officer Milindra Velip administered an oath of office to the new members here on Tuesday.
Salcete sarpanchas and panch members have been requested for their help and co-operation to enable the government in making the taluka an open defecation-free.
BDO Velip told the newly-elected members after administering the oath of office to put in place a draft five-year plan, listing the requirement of infrastructure in the village, including roads, drains, community halls, etc.
“I would request you to prepare a draft five-year plan by obtaining suggestions from the ward members within a week’s time. The plan can be submitted to me when I personally take a round of the panchayat bodies in a week’s time,”
Velip told the sarpanchas and panch members.
The BDO also sought the co-operation and help from the panchayat bodies in achieving the government mission of making the entire State open defecation-free by March 2018. “I am confident that Salcete can be a role model for other talukas not only in making the taluka open defecation-free, but in other fields as well,” BDO Velip told the newly-elected members after the oath-taking ceremony.
Meanwhile, most of the newly-elected panchayat members from Salcete took the oath of office on Tuesday, with majority of the members taking the oath in English.
The BDO also made a plea to the newly-elected members to contact the designated
officer and submit their election expenses within the
stipulated time.
