PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar on Thursday assured to direct MVR Infra to clear the blocked drains along the Guirim-Bastora stretch of NH66 as the rainwater had inundated fields along the route.
The minister also said he would ask the contractor to repair the service roads along the national highway.
“If the drains are blocked on account of landfilling, then necessary instructions will be issued to the contractor MVR Infra to clear the drains to allow free flow of the rainwater. I will also take up the matter of bad service roads with the contractor,” Pawaskar said.
Some farmers from Guirim had recently complained that haphazard landfilling carried out during the construction of the service roads has led to the flooding of their fields.
“All the channels that allowed rainwater to drain off have been choked thereby inundating the fields. We could not cultivate our fields for the last two years,” a farmer said.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Thursday along with aggrieved locals had also inspected the fields in Guirim and assured the villagers to take up the matter with the concerned authorities.
