Uncertainty prevails over the recruitment process in the Public Works Department, which was started before Assembly elections, with the new PWD Nilesh Cabral in favour of starting the process afresh.
"After the inquiry committee report, the government will take an appropriate decision. Whether it is a scam or not, that will come out after the report,” said Cabral.
"Personally, I feel the whole process of recruitment should be done again as those who have qualified earlier will not have any problem to get qualified again,” said Cabral.
There were around 300 posts of Junior Engineers and Technical Engineers for which the recruitment process was initiated during the tenure of then PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar.
At that time, Ruling BJP MLAs including Atanasio Monserrate and Opposition MLAs like Sudin Dhavalikar and Digambar Kamat had demanded an inquiry in the recruitment process and alleged a scam in the recruitment.
Amid growing criticisms at the time, a three-member vigilance department inquiry committee was appointed and the matter is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, candidates who have been shortlisted have demanded that the process be continued, while those who have failed have demanded a fresh round of selections.
