The PWD officials held an inspection at Goulebhat-Chimbel, on Wednesday, over complaints of lack of water supply in the area since the past several months.

The inspection comes after assurance was given to the villagers by St Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes that he would try to solve the issue by inviting the PWD officials and inspect the area to ascertain the problem.

Though Fernandes was not present for the inspection, his son Kliban along with others remained present.

Speaking to The Goan after the inspection, a local Govind Shirodkar informed that the PWD officials gave a hearing to the villagers who cited that there is lack of coordination between the supervisor and the workers due to which the water supply in the area is affected.

“While the supervisor laid blame on the workers that they are not releasing enough water, the workers informed that they are only following the instructions given by the supervisor,” Shirodkar stated and informed that such differences between the supervisor and the workers is among one of the reasons that the villagers are suffering.

Shirodkar further said that after the inspection, it has now been decided to fully fill the water tank at Indira Nagar and then only release the water supply.

“Currently, it appears that the water supply is being released with the water tank being half-filled due to which the villagers at the far end of the supply chain do not receive water,” Shirodkar stated.

However, there was general acceptance among the PWD officials and the villagers that there is a need to replace the old rusted water pipeline with a new one.

“The pipeline supplying water in the area is decades old and needs to be replaced,” a PWD source informed while stating that there is already a proposal of Rs 27 lakh to get the work done.

“Once the pipeline is replaced the water supply problem in the area will be resolved,” the source added.

PWD AE Uttam Shetye, JE Pai and several villagers were present for the inspection.
