It’s over a week now since curtains came down on the Panchayat elections, with the newly-elected Sarpanchas and members assuming office.
The official vehicle of the Chairperson of Cuncolim Municipal Council, however, has not been returned back to the civic body till date.
Deputy Collector, Margao Joao Fernandes, who is holding additional charge of Cuncolim Municipal Council as its Chief Officer, had dashed off a letter to the election authorities, over the delay in returning the CMC Chairperson’ s official vehicle, requisitioned for the panchayat polls.
With the civic body facing shortage of vehicles, sources said the CMC. Chairperson is presently using the electric vehicle given to the civic body under the Finance Commission. Official work, including inspections, have been adversely affected due to the delay in returning back the CMC vehicle by the election authorities, sources said.
When contacted, Chief Officer Fernandes admitted that the CMC vehicle requisitioned by the election authorities for election work has still not being returned back to the civic body.
“I have now written a letter to the election authorities to return the vehicle at the earliest and ensure that official work does not come to a stop for want of the vehicles,” he added.
