New-born infant found abandoned at Sirvodem

Cops suspect baby was delivered by minor girl

MARGAO

In a shocking incident, a new-born baby girl was found abandoned at Sirvodem-Margao on Thursday morning.

While the condition of the new-born is stated as normal, and her health condition is being monitored at the South Goa district hospital, the case had a twist when Margao police revealed that the baby is suspected to have been delivered by a minor girl of 17 years.

The minor girl, who is studying in ninth standard has been sent for medical examination by the police.

Margao police claimed the minor girl was carrying the baby without the knowledge of her parents. She delivered the baby at around 8.30 am on Thursday and allegedly abandoned the infant behind her rented room.

Incidentally, the mother of the minor heard cries of the infant, apparently after an ant bite, only realizing that a new born has been abandoned behind their rented room, and brought the infant in the room.

When the incident was informed to the Margao police, the police team rushed to the spot for investigation. Sources said the police team came across blood stains on the window of the rented room and outside near the compound wall. During inquiry, they also found blood stains inside house and the minor girl in a weak and traumatic stage.

Margao police station in-charge, PI Tulsidas Naik informed that the police have registered a case against unknown person for abandoning the new-born.

“We have sent the minor girl, who is suspected to have delivered the baby for medical checkup”, he said, adding that the police will take appropriate steps after receiving the medical report.

The police is conducting further investigations.
