P’yat polls: Margao police keep vigil on bars for code violations

MARGAO
Margao Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Shivendu Bhushan with Margao police station in-charge, PI Tulsidas Naik in tow went around the police station jurisdiction to ensure that no bars remain open after the prescribed hours in view of the ensuing panchayat polls.

While the police made its presence felt at the Navelim-Telaulim area, besides Rawanfond and Aquem-Baixo village, the senior police officers later descended along the Margao railway station road, both on the Aquem side and opposite the railway station, to ensure that no bars remain open after the prescribed hours.

The Margao police pointed out that they do not rule out the possibility of people from villages of Navelim, Telaulim and Aquem-Baixo taking advantage of bars remaining late open in the Margao area.

Hence, the police have issued a stern warning to the bars and wholesale liquor establishments both on the Margao station road and the Rajendra Prasad Stadium-ESI hospital road to bring down the shutters as per the rules in force.

In fact, three police jeeps descended at the Margao station road on the Aquem side of the Margao railway station late Saturday to convey a message loud and clear to the bar and wholesale liquor establishments to stick to the timings or face action. “We mean business. If the bars and wholesale liquor outlets had remained open on the Margao station road and opposite the railway station in the past, we have told the owners to go by the timings or face action,” informed a police officer.
