The two-floor commercial complex building was built by spending lakhs of rupees from the golden jubilee funds and was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza in the presence of Quepem MLA Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar in 2015.
However, the authorities concerned failed to make optimum use of the building and generate revenue from the infrastructure.
Speaking to The Goan, Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) Chairperson Raul Pereira said the work to set up the Nagar library has been almost completed and it was supposed to be inaugurated before the Assembly election, but due to election code of conduct, the library will be inaugurated after code of conduct comes to an end.
Speaking on other remaining shops which are kept underutilized, Pereira said the shops are kept vacant so that when the new market complex building
project starts after demolition of the existing dilapidated building, the shops/tenants would be accommodated in this commercial complex building.
“Once the new market complex project becomes operational, shops from commercial complex building will be auctioned,” he added.
It may be recalled that Kavlekar had hoped that complex will be put to use and also set up the Nagar library. QMC Chief Officer Pramod Dessai had said that Nagar library would be inaugurated before the code of conduct for assembly election, but the inauguration is still pending.
