PMC took the decision at a special meeting, which was presided over by Vice Chairperson Shantaram Kolvekar. Councillors Venkatesh Naik, Sunil Desai, Shanti Naik, Lalan Naik, Shivanand Sawant, Vincent Fernandes, Geetali Talaulikar, Nidhi Mamlekar and Sitaram Dangui were present for the meeting. Chief Officer Navanath Naik was also present.
Speaking to mediapersons, Kolvekar said they had received a memorandum from liquor traders to denotify the State highway passing from the city, which could save 50-odd liquor outlets.
“The State highway from Farmagudi till the post office and from post office to Curti was already denotified. Now, we want to denotify the stretch from post office to Dhavali,” Kolvekar said.
The move was to save liquor outlets located within 500 metres of the national and state highways, as the Supreme Court has ordered not to renew their licences from April 1.
PMC also resolved to issue No Objection Certificate to masala vendors from Ponda market, so they can avail licence from the Food and Drugs Administration.
