Says passing percentage has gone up but kids lack confidence to face the world

“We have reduced the quality of education so low that a student may find it easy to get a certificate in Goa, but he does not have the confidence to face the world,” Parrikar said.
The chief minister was speaking at a function after inaugurating the Tambudki (Arpora-Baga) Bridge in Arpora on Saturday evening. Deputy Speaker and local MLA Michael Lobo was also present.
Speaking further, Parrikar said students should be able to face the world on their own without depending on anyone else, after passing their studies. Giving his own example, Parrikar said that when he started his business he worked his way up with very little help from the family.
“My father had a shop in Mapusa, which is now run by my younger brother. No one helped us in those days. When I became an engineer, I moved out and started my own factory. My dad gave me some money but the technical know-how of running the factory was all due to my effort,” Parrikar said.
He said he moved out to various states to market his product and suffered a few setbacks, but finally succeeded to stand on his own feet.
“In today’s education, kids do not get this knowledge. This type of confidence is lacking in the children of now,” he opined.
The chief minister said the present coalition government will take State’s development forward with people’s participation. “Development does not mean only building bridges and roads. We also need to change the way we think and be partners in the State’s progress,” he said.
He said the government has taken a lot of initiatives to treat waste and keep the State clean and exhorted the people of Goa to take responsibility in keeping Goa clean.
He said the people of Goa should stop using plastic bags of thin variety instead of government banning it from use.
“Why should we use plastic bags to carry fish? People should stop using plastic bags on their own,” he said.
