Quelossim Sarpanch Maria Souza has said an inspection would be conducted at the controversial mini India park project, to ascertain the nature of work undertaken at the site.
While interacting with residents at a recent meeting in the village, Souza said the project proponents had blocked access to the site.
“The main issue is that the project proponent of Mini India park project has blocked the access and villagers have passed a resolution to open the access for them.”
“We will have a site inspection and take necessary action. The Flying Squad had directed the proponent to stop works but he did not stop and we later submitted letters to GCZMA and Collector. The South Goa Collector assured us that works would be stopped immediately the next day and also made a letter to Mamlatdar. Later, the Mamalatdar and Talathi visited the area and stopped the work. We will not allow this project in this village no matter what,” said Souza.
Pledging her support to the people of Quelossim, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha said no one could block public access and no works could be taken up in eco-sensitive zone and no-development zones. “I think that is public access and so, nobody can close that access but nevertheless, we will ascertain our rights and very soon, there will be a site inspection by using our rights.”
“No work can go on in that area as it is an eco-sensitive area and it is a no-development zone. Absolutely no work can go on there except for fishing in the area.”
Therefore, we need to verify what work has taken up there and whether land filling is done. We will conduct a site inspection very soon to ascertain these details,”
said Saldanha.
