St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes said the electricity department’s executive engineer Rajgopal had assured to resolve the issue of constant power cuts in St Cruz constituency by enhancing capacity of four transformers as well as commissioning of eight new transformers in the constituency.
Speaking to The Goan, MLA Fernandes said he had convened a meeting with EE Rajgopal at his residence on Tuesday afternoon to work out a solution to the constant power cuts in St Cruz.
“As part of the solution, the EE informed that the capacity of four transformers in St Cruz constituency will be enhanced from 100 KVA to 200 KVA and eight transformers will be commissioned, of which four are in Chimbel, one in Merces and two in Santa Cruz,” Fernandes informed, while adding that this would resolve the issue of power cuts in the constituency.
“Shifting of power lines from Madonna pharmacy to Bandh as well as from Green Valley junction to Shantadurga temple, in Santa Cruz, will also be taken up,” Fernandes said.
“This would solve the problem faced by linesmen during the monsoon as these lines pass through low lying areas and it is difficult for the power staff to undertake repair works as the areas are submerged.”
“Underground cabling will also be taken up from ICICI Bank to Santa Cruz football ground,” the MLA added.
Cacra locals seek MLA’s help over health notices due to sewage discharge
OLD GOA: Fearing disconnection of electricity and water supply due to notices by health authorities over discharge of sewage into the river, a group of locals from Cacra-St Cruz locals met St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes and sought his intervention in the matter.
Around 30 locals from Cacra met the MLA at his residence on Tuesday night and explained that they had been given a period of 15 days by health authorities to stop discharge of sewage into the river, failing which water and electricity connection would be disconnected.
Explaining their difficulty in constructing soak pits, the locals informed that their houses are very small with common walls and there is no space for them to construct soak pits.
“We are releasing bathing and kitchen water in the open for ages and this sudden action by health authorities have taken the people by surprise,” a local explained to the MLA and asked him to come to the aid of the people.
Assuring the locals of his full support, MLA Fernandes said he would hire an experienced lawyer to file reply to the health authorities, as an urgent measure.
