Quepem DySP inspects Pollem check post, meets K’taka police

CANACONA

Quepem DySP Kiran Poduval on Tuesday conducted a joint inspection of security arrangements at the State’s border check post at Pollem-Canacona, in view of the directives issued by the district magistrate.

DySP Poduval along with Canacona Police Inspector Tulshidas Naik also interacted with their counterparts from Karnataka manning the Majali check post, PSI Praveena Kumara R of Chithakota Police Station, Karwar.

DySP Poduval later issued guidelines and directives to the Canacona police manning the Pollem border checkpost.

During the inspection, various points relating to border security, checking of vaccination certificates/Covid-19 negative reports of persons entering Goa and checks on the health condition of drivers/cleaner/occupants of essentials services/exempted commodities vehicles were discussed.

DySP Poduval directed the Canacona Police Inspector Tulshidas Naik to write to SDM/Dy Collector to depute/station a health team at the check post to verify the authenticity of the Covid negative certificate and vaccination certificate and to check the temperature of people arriving into the State.

“While the police will provide security cover, the police does not have the expertise to verify the authenticity of all certificates prescribed under the law for people entering the State.”

“There are various others especially from the exempted category entering the State on a daily and regular basis. A health team should be provisioned to check to verify the entry of people from outside the state,” DySP Poduval said.

It was later decided to write to the Canacona SDM to seek the services of a medical team at the Pollem check post round the clock to verify Covid-19 negative certificates/vaccination certificates and to check occupants of essentials services vehicles entering Goa.
