Rage against PWD as sewage water flows onto Pajifond road

Locals claim situation could have been averted

MARGAO
Officials of the PWD took a break during the weekend, but residents of Pajifond behind Hospicio had to literally breathe foul sewage odour during the last two days for no fault of theirs.
The main Pajifond road behind the BPS Club was literally inundated with sewage water as foul water came gushing down from an interior road leading to the government housing quarters.
While residents of the government quarters had been experiencing sewage stink within the housing complex since Thursday evening, this is the first time that the sewage water found its way onto the main road, posing nuisance to motorists and pedestrians alike.
Local residents were quick to blame the PWD officials for their indifference and apathy towards solving the problem. Despite the fact that the issue of the overflowing septic tank was brought to the notice of the PWD officials a couple of days ago, no PWD official or labourer came at the government quarters to plug the sewage seepage.
Residents at the government quarters slammed the PWD authorities for the approach in attending to the problem. “How can the PWD allow the sewage water to flow down the road and create nuisance and health hazard to the residents while the officials enjoy the weekend home,” remarked a resident.
Incidentally, The Goan had called up assistant engineer Pai on Saturday morning, drawing his attention to the stinking environment at the government quarters after the sewage water flowed over the road, but in vain.
Residents claimed that the sewage water would not have not found its way onto the main Pajifond road if the PWD officials had responded quickly and plugged the leakage or emptied the septic tank.
