The issue of illegal construction came up for discussion at the gram sabha of the Raia panchayat on Sunday.
The meeting chaired by sarpanch Judas Quadros saw gram sabha members demanding to know the action against the illegal constructions that have come up in the village in recent times.
Some of the members pointed out that the if the panchayat is initiating a drive against illegal construction, it should go after all the illegal constructions across the village.
The gram sabha also discussed the request received from the Raia Sporting Club to take up work on the repairs at the Raia panchayat grounds.
Sarpanch Judas later told the media that the Raia Sporting Club is celebrating its 50th anniversary and have requested the panchayat to take up playground repairs. He said the panchayat has promised to help the Club by taking up minor repair works, including the replacement of the damaged slab on the drains.
The sarpanch, however, pointed out that the panchayat has already moved a file to the government to take up the renovation of the Raia panchayat grounds at an estimated cost of over Rs one crore under the Tribal sub-plan.
