A day after Revolutionary Goans supremo Manoj Parab and local volunteers of the party made their presence at Arlem-Raia to highlight the scrapyard and illegal houses, the ruling Raia panchayat led by sarpanch Judas Quadros termed the allegations levelled against the local body as false.
Addressing the media, sarpanch Judas pointed out that the delegation led by Manoj Parab had called on him at the panchayat to inquire about the scrapyard at Arlem and the inaction on the part of the local body.
“Parab pointed out that an inspection was conducted in 2020 of the scrapyard. If that is so, why was no action initiated against the scrapyard and the illegal houses in the last two years,” the sarpanch said, adding that he has taken over the reins of the body only six months ago.
Saying that the RG chief spoke against the local MLA Reginaldo Lourenco and the panchayat, the sarpanch said people have elected Reginaldo for the last four terms because of his good work, adding that the people of Raia have elected the panchayat members after seeing their work.
Deputy sarpanch Oswald D’Souza, who had come face to face with Manoj Parab and the RG volunteers at Arlem during the inspection, disputed the claim made by RG that migrants have built illegal houses in Arlem-Raia.
Saying that the majority of the voters in his ward comprised Niz Goemkars, mostly hailing from the ST community, Oswald said the panchayat would consider initiating action against the RG for allegedly terming the ST community people as migrants.
