The Raia gram sabha witnessed an uproar on Sunday after some members questioned the sarpanch why he postponed the inspection of his house at Bacbhatt last week.

The villagers also came for the meeting armed with a banner showing that the sarpanch is paying a paltry house tax of Rs 40 when other ground plus one storey structures in the village are paying house tax of more than Rs 100.

A gram sabha member pointed out that the residential house in question, which is registered in the name of Jose Rodrigues, is paying house tax less than Rs 100 and demanded to know whether the house has been built by complying with all the building rules and regulations.

Sarpanch Isidore Rodrigues tried to explain to the members that the house in question does not belong to him, but to his father. He further informed the members that the residential house has not been constructed recently but has been existing at the place for years now.

On the postponement of the inspection of the house last week, the sarpanch said the inspection could not be held since he could not be present as his father was indisposed.

The meeting also witnessed an uproar after the members took offense to a remark made by the sarpanch at a gram sabha member. The agitated members demanded that the secretary record the remark in the minutes of the meeting.

A demand was also made for the building of speed breaker at the Raia junction.
