Raid on leading matka agent

In a dramatic and sudden raid in an office belonging to one of the leading matka agents in Mapusa late Tuesday night, Mapusa Police arrested one person and seized cash of Rs 76,200.

A police team led by PSI Vijay Kumar Chodankar swooped down on the office of the matka agent and arrested Nitesh Chari, who was present there at the time of the raid. Police recovered cash of Rs 76,200 from the office.   
The arrested accused was released on bail last night.   
The office is situated in one of the shops along the “chonekar” line opposite Canara Bank in Mapusa market.   
Mapusa PI Tushar Lotlikar said the raid was a routine one and more such raids will be conducted in the near future.   
An offence under Sections 3 and 4 of the Gambling Act has been registered. PSI Vijay Kumar Chodankar is investigating the case.
