With monsoons round the corner, the Water Resources Department has urged the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd to clear the waterway of Sirsat river at Bharipwada in the Collem Panchayat area.
The RVNL has also been requested to clear the waterway of Zuari river at Dhadem in village panchayat Sanvordem in Sanguem taluka.
In the letter addressed to the General Manager (Projects) RVNL, a WRD Executive Engineer reminded that the Railways had taken up the bridge construction across Zuari river for the purpose of double tracking of the railway line at Dhadem-Sanvordem.
The letter drew attention of the RVNL general manager that an inspection of the site revealed that the waterway of Zuari river is blocked due to dumping of earth and concrete platform which was erected for casting bridge girders. “Issue necessary directions to the concerned agency to clear the waterway of the river by clearing the hazardous material dumped within the river course in order to prevent flooding in the panchayat area during the ensuing monsoons.
In the second letter to the RVNL, an WRD Executive Engineer that the bridge construction taken by the Railways for the purpose of double tracking of the railway line at Bharipwada-Collem has resulted in the blocking of the waterway.
In the letter, the WRD maintained that inspection of the site has revealed that the waterway of Sirsat river is blocked due to dumping of earth and the concrete platform for casting bridge girders.
Meanwhile, RVNL General Manager, B C Sahoo has informed that work has commenced for the clearing of one of the waterways mentioned by the WRD. He pointed out that the Railways will clear the waterways in the next 3-4 days before the onset of monsoons.
