MMC chief, Kamat take stock of issues plaguing New Market

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat along with newly-elected Margao Municipal Chairperson Lyndon Pereira descended at the Municipal New Market on Saturday for an inspection of the market and suggest changes.

New Market Traders Association President Vinod Shirodkar briefed the MLA and the MMC Chief Lyndon and Deputy Deepali Sawal about the problems plaguing the New Market.

The traders drew attention of the MLA and the civic chief about the broken floor tiles, the damaged roof and the haphazard parking around the market complex. Shirodkar also pointed out that the state of the entrance and exit gates of the New Market.

Given that the New Market has been repeatedly shut down on account of the Covid situation, the traders hoped that the Municipality will take cognizance of the loses sustained by them and work out a relief package.

After giving the traders a patient hearing, the Margao MLA recalled his close association with the New Market since his childhood. “I share a close rapport with the New Market traders since my childhood. This is one of the oldest market in Goa and the market and the traders certainly deserve a better deal,” he said.

Saying that the traders have outlined their problems, including the amenities in the market, Kamat said, the civic chief and the deputy has taken note of the problems, while assuring to work out a solution. “The issue raised by the traders are genuine,” Kamat said, while saying that every effort will be made to resolve the issues.
