Railway police tighten election vigil, search for cash

Passengers disembarking at the Margao railway station from the Howrah-Vasco Amravati Express were subjected to a thorough search to check for movement of cash in view of the ensuing Assembly elections.

Konkan Railway police led by station in-charge, PI Kapil Nayak, conducted searches and verified the passengers, who disembarked at the Margao railway station.

Sources said though the police could not effect any major seizure of cash and incriminating material from the passengers, the police are expected to maintain strict vigil at the Margao railway station till the polling process end. 

“The search and verification were conducted to ensure there’s no movement of cash in trains headed to Goa. This exercise will be continued till February 14,” sources said.

Meanwhile, the Konkan Railway police have seized 139 liquor bottles of different brands worth around Rs 25,100.
