CANACONA
The rains may have given Canacona taluka a miss, but Canacona certainly did not miss their Sao Joao revelleries and celebrated the day in rivers and artificial water showers. The Sao Joao celebrations were celebrated in different styles in Canacona, with many resorting to home parties and a few groups celebrating in water bodies.
At least two groups roamed on vehicles and played loud music, dancing to the tunes and going around places before feasting on delicacies specially prepared for the feast. At Agonda, a group of people began the revelry by celebrating a litany at the Miraculous Holy Cross of Agonda.
In the absence of rains on Monday, revellers marched through the hot sun, singing and dancing in the village river, where the riverfront was decorated. Revellers wearing Sao Joao ‘kopels’ on their heads entered the river, dancing to the music and feasting on delicacies prepared for the occasion.
