Rains lash Sattari taluka, several places inundated

VALPOI

Many houses and roads were flooded as heavy rains struck Sattari taluka on Thursday evening, prompting queries regarding the pre-monsoon work in Valpoi town.

According to reports, heavy rains for about three hours led to the flooding of houses, including those of Suman Natekar near ACGL in Honda and Sunil Katkar in Valpoi. Roads in many villages in Sattari taluka were also flooded, disrupting the traffic along the routes.

Rainwater also accumulated in front of the Maruti temple in Valpoi town.

“As there was no outlet near the temple for the rainwater to flow, the water flooded my house and caused damage to my property,” said Sunil Katkar.

Katkar suspects the flooding took place because the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) did not clean the gutters properly during its pre-monsoon work.

The house of Suman Natekar was also flooded due to heavy rains in Honda.

“A trench has been dug to lay cables and this blocked the free flow of water, leading to flooding in my house and damage to my belongings,” said Natekar.
