Against the backdrop of the ongoing controversy surrounding the felling of 28 century-old trees at Siolim and the relocation of a 200-year-old Banyan tree at St Inez, Raj Bhavan will host a symposium on Sunday appealing to preserve the deep-rooted link between ancient traditions and environment.
The daylong symposium titled ‘Vriksha Vvgnanika Sadassu’ (a get-together to share knowledge on trees) will have 11 experts including three from Goa presenting papers on the subject.
“This symposium is an earnest endeavour by Raj Bhavan to create awareness and deeper understanding of the importance of trees in the life and culture of the people of India. The traditions, rituals and customs of the ancient past have a profound connection to ecology and environment and it is hoped that this event will help to highlight our rich ecological heritage and that our people particularly the younger generation would be inspired to carry on the wonderful traditions of our ancestors,” reads a message issued by Raj Bhavan on Friday.
