VALPOI

Taking serious note of the water shortage at Zarme in Sattari taluka, local MLA Pratapsingh Rane accompanied by water supply department officials visited the village on Friday morning to take stock of the situation.

Rane also directed PWD officials to find an alternate solution till the rainy season and also a permanent one to rid the village of water woes.

Zarme villagers are facing drinking water problem for the last six months. Their requests to the PWD to resolve the problem have fallen on deaf ears.

In the last two months, the villagers have marched three times to the PWD office located in Valpoi.

On Thursday, too, some of the women staged a morcha at Valpoi, but no official was found present to listen to their grievance. They have lodged a police complaint regarding the absence of the officials in the office (see box item).

Later, they met the local MLA Pratapsingh Rane and spelt out their water woes. Taking serious note of their grievance, Rane met water supply executive engineer Barretto, assistant engineer Subhash Gawade and junior engineer Viraj Patil.

The meeting was convened in the temple premises where officials villagers were present in large numbers. The villagers blamed the officials for not doing anything about the problem.

After the discussion, it was decided to supply water through pipeline during the night time on trial basis from Friday night. If this trial succeeds, then it will be continued till rainy season.

Executive Engineer Barretto said that a big diameter pipeline proposal is already submitted for sanction and it has got administrative approval. He added that after the model code of conduct ends, the project will get financial approval and work will be start soon.

This pipeline will start at the Dabose plant to Zarme village and hopefully will help in resolving the water woes of the village permanently.
