Rawanfond inferno: Fire dept claims exact cause of fire not known

With the cause of the fire engulfing the house, shop and vehicles remains unknown, the Fire Department has dashed off separate letters to the Power Department as well as the police department on Saturday.

Fire Officer, Gill D’Souza said the letter to the Margao police has urged the police to find out whether the fire was due to arson or otherwise. The letter addressed to the Power Department has requested the officials to find out whether the fire was due to a short circuit or otherwise.

“We could not ascertain the exact cause of the fire behind the incident. The electric panel and fitting have all been gutted in the inferno. Hence, we have asked the Power Department to give us a report on the cause behind the incident,” he said.

To a question, Gill said the fire services have asked the police to find out whether the fire was due to arson or otherwise.
