The owner running the upholstery shop in the building has claimed that the loss of property could cross the Rs 50 lakh figure.

The owner Salman Shah told the media that he had procured foam worth around Rs 40 lakh just a couple of days ago. Besides, he said that cloth material, estimated around Rs 20 lakh was inside the shop at the time of the incident.

“Complete sofa sets, both inside the shop and outside have all been gutted in the inferno. The loss could even touch the Rs 1 crore mark,” Salman said.

He added: “I received a call at around 7.40 am informing me about the inferno at the shop and building. When I reached the site, the shop and the goods were completely gutted. There were complete sofa sets inside the shop and outside, which have all been gutted,” he said.

Questions have been raised whether the upholstery shop had any permission from the Aquem-Baixo panchayat, with panchayat officials saying the shop had no NOC or permission to run the upholstery business.
